Dapagliflozin + Linagliptin is an oral antidiabetic combination used to improve blood-glucose control in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, generally along with diet, exercise and other diabetes-management measures. Dapagliflozin increases glucose excretion through urine, while linagliptin increases glucose-dependent insulin release and reduces glucagon secretion.
Indications :
- Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with inadequate glycemic control.
- May be used when treatment with other antidiabetic medicines does not provide adequate control.
- Helps reduce fasting and post-meal blood glucose and HbA1c.
- May be prescribed as an add-on to metformin or other antidiabetic therapy when clinically appropriate.
Common Side Effects :
- Increased urination
- Thirst
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Nasopharyngitis/cold-like symptoms
- Urinary tract infections
- Genital fungal infections
- Mild dehydration
Dapagliflozin can cause volume depletion and genitourinary infections, so patients should be monitored for symptoms.
Important / Serious Side Effects :
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA): nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, unusual tiredness or difficulty breathing can be warning signs.
- Severe dehydration or low blood pressure
- Serious urinary or genital infections
- Pancreatitis has been reported with linagliptin-containing therapy.
- Hypoglycemia is more likely when used together with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Seek medical attention promptly for severe weakness, persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, breathing difficulty, or signs of a serious infection.
Precautions
- Check kidney function before and during treatment as advised by the physician.
- Take this medicine as per the guidance of healthcare professional.
- Maintain adequate fluid intake, particularly during hot weather, illness or heavy sweating.
- Inform the doctor about kidney disease, liver disease, recurrent urinary/genital infections or a history of pancreatitis.
- Tell the doctor before major surgery or prolonged fasting; dapagliflozin is generally withheld for at least 3 days before major surgery, when appropriate.
- Not intended to improve glycemic control in Type 1 Diabetes, because of the risk of ketoacidosis.
- Monitor blood glucose regularly as recommended.
- Inform your doctor about all other diabetes medicines, particularly insulin or sulfonylureas.
Storage
- Store at 20–25°C; permitted excursions are generally 15–30°C.
- Keep in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
- Keep the tablets in their original packaging.
- Keep out of reach of children.
