Glimepiride (3 mg) + Metformin (500 mg) SR is an oral anti-diabetic combination used for the management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Glimepiride stimulates pancreatic β-cells to enhance insulin secretion. Metformin (Sustained Release) decreases hepatic glucose production, improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, and enhances glucose uptake. This dual mechanism provides effective glycemic control by reducing both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels. It also helps in preventing long-term diabetic complications such as neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy when used consistently with lifestyle modification.
📌 Indications :
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (non-insulin dependent)
Inadequate glycemic control with monotherapy
Patients requiring combination oral hypoglycemic therapy
Insulin resistance with elevated fasting blood glucose
Overweight diabetic patients needing improved insulin sensitivity
Precautions :
- Monitor blood glucose regularly to avoid hypoglycemia
- Use cautiously in renal impairment (check serum creatinine)
- Avoid in severe hepatic dysfunction
- Risk of lactic acidosis (rare but serious, mainly due to metformin)
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption
- Temporarily discontinue before contrast imaging procedures
- Elderly patients require dose monitoring
- Not recommended in Type 1 Diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis

Less Common but Serious:
